| We Use Microsoft Excel | 1/19 Session Links |
In some sense, Excel is a distraction. It has lots of bells and whistles that seduce us — nifty formats, colors, and over 400 functions. But to build effective models, you need only a very small amount of this stuff. you'll learn about some of it, but don't make the mistake of thinking that Excel's powerful formatting will give your models substance.
For this reason, we don't give you much help in using Excel. You'll probably spend more time on that than you should without our encouraging you. Nearly everything you'll need in the way of help with Excel is available in online help, or in supplementary readings.
Later on, we'll introduce Visual Basic for macros, and the last two references above are useful aids for that, if you want to go much deeper than we will in this course.
