hether you manage the group or the enterprise, you probably use spreadsheets not only for models, but also as tools. Spreadsheets are used for everything from the annual budget exercise, to generating weekly sales reports. Although the spreadsheet is almost always helpful in any of these roles, naive design and even more naive use inevitably leads to problems.
For instance, in the annual budget exercise, the spreadsheet plays the role of data collection template. How often has it happened that the first version of the template has to be replaced after it has been distributed? When this happens after managers have entered some data into the first version, much effort can be lost, frustrations rise, and it's no wonder that the exercise has a bad reputation in most organizations.
It's all so avoidable.
Below is a summary of the materials for Session 15.
