Let’s look at an example. You’re planning the office furniture purchases for a start-up company. Each category of employee gets a collection of furniture items appropriate to that category. You’ll proceed by dividing the employees into categories, cataloging the furniture required for each category, and then adding up the results to find the furniture required by the entire company.
